MILK / Where's your mustache?

Some of us drink skim milk for the calcium and other nutrients. But most of us drink it 'cause it's fat-free. Me? I drink it because it's downright tasty. Whatever the reason, one thing's certain. If you want a body to die for, skim milk can help. Besides, the little cartons really come in handy on those Nothing-to-Wear days.

The Milk Mustache Book (1998), photo and illustration credits (p. 152), credits the Seventeen winner ads with India Daniels and Liz Elkins to photographer Andrew Eccles.

The Milk Mustache Book (1998, p. 142) explains the Seventeen contest: readers were asked to say why they were “Mad About Milk” by creating their own ads, and the winner was published in the magazine and joined the campaign’s gallery of celebrities. India Daniels won the first year with a dress made of milk cartons. The page reproduces her ad, with the “MILK. Where’s your mustache?” sign-off, and gives the date May 9, 1996, New York City.

The Baltimore Sun of April 9, 1997 (“Maryland girl grows milk mustache”) reports that India Daniels of Clinton, Maryland, won Seventeen’s “Mad About Milk” contest with a dress made of milk cartons, and that her ad would appear in the May 1997 Seventeen. The later winners of the contest on file are Liz Elkins, Ally Novitske, Kate Mason, Cherise (Cherish) Wise and Allison Wroten.
