Cal and Billy Ripken “Drink your milk and see how you measure up to the Ripkens.” growth chart

Release year:Undated
Category:Regional dairy promotion
Collections:Ads without mustaches
Type:Growth chart

Notes

A tall growth chart: two Baltimore Orioles players standing back to back, numbers 3 and 8, above three milk cartons (whole, low fat and skim), with a ruler up the right edge. Headline “DRINK YOUR MILK AND SEE HOW YOU MEASURE UP TO THE RIPKENS.”; sign-off “MILK. IT’S FITNESS YOU CAN DRINK.” The players are Cal Ripken Jr. and his brother Billy, according to the dealer. It has no milk mustache and no got milk? wording, and was made before the milk mustache campaign. No date can be read in the photograph.

Issued by: the line at the foot appears to read “MAMMA The Middle Atlantic Milk Marketing Association”.

Lancaster Farming of May 7, 1988, as read by the research pass, reports a life-size growth poster of Cal Jr. and Bill Ripken given to fans 14 and under at Memorial Stadium on June 5, 1988, with a second printing for school cafeterias; an earlier version that also showed Cal Ripken Sr. was withdrawn when he was dismissed as manager in April 1988. This chart may be that poster, but the article as read does not quote the poster’s wording, so the match is not established.
