Notes
A main-campaign Milk Mustache ad. The magazines and dates it ran in are listed under Where it was published.
The Milk Mustache Book (1998, p. 36) gives the shoot as September 22, 1995, New York City, and calls it the shortest shoot the campaign had had up to then: five minutes and two rolls of film. Bennett said the last celebrity campaign he had seen done so simply was an old Chock Full O’Nuts ad with a close-up of Jimmy Durante’s nose sniffing the coffee. Seeing his milk mustache in the mirror, he said he looked like Cesar Romero, and when the talk turned to his painting he said he thought of himself as a painter who sings.
A scan of the tear sheet filed with the USPTO on May 13, 1996, as one of the three specimens for the service mark “MILK. What a surprise!” is in the gallery; it shows corner wear and is kept as a document copy beside the main picture.
