The Milk Mustache Book (1998, p. xiv) says Pete Sampras went so far as to send the agency a photograph of himself with a milk mustache.
The Milk Mustache Book (1998, p. 38) gives the shoot as October 13, 1995, New York City. Asked to hold the racket in one hand and stand in a semi-crouch facing the camera, Sampras laughed and refused: bad form. After about thirty minutes the team thought it had the shot; then he tossed a towel over his head, as he does between sets, and started to walk off, and that became the picture. The book adds that he was one of the celebrities who asked to be in the campaign, and had sent in a picture of himself with a milk mustache.
